Most IU Bloomington students move in beginning Aug. 18; IU Indianapolis move-in starts Aug. 17

Aug 13, 2024

Indiana University students have started moving into residence halls for the 2024-25 school year this week, with the majority of IU Bloomington students arriving between Sunday, Aug. 18, and Tuesday, Aug. 20. Members of the first freshman class at IU Indianapolis will begin moving into residence halls Aug. 17, and classes on both campuses will start Aug. 26.

IU Bloomington

All students moving into residence halls at IU Bloomington will go through a centralized check-in process at the Indiana Memorial Union Bookstore through Aug. 17 and at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on Aug. 18 to 20.

Students arriving the week of Aug. 18 will enter check-in from the State Road 45/46 Bypass at Gate 11, Purple Lot, and park in the Green Lot by the north entrance of Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. They should arrive on their preselected day and time. Students will then use the facility’s north entrance to check in. All students should bring a photo ID, preferably their IU CrimsonCard, which will be activated on site for residence hall access.

Check-in will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 18 and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 19 and 20.

Once students have completed centralized check-in, they will proceed to their residence halls. Individual parking and move-in instructions for each residence hall are available on the IU Housing website.

Travelers should also check the Indiana Department of Transportation TrafficWise website before heading to Bloomington for any potential delays or detours due to construction or traffic. IU Police Department officers will be stationed at several intersections around campus, and signs will help guide traffic.

While students will find activities and events starting as soon as they move to campus, Wednesday, Aug. 21, will mark the formal start of Welcome Week activities that help students find their way around, make new friends and acclimate to campus. Highlights include:

  • New Student Induction Ceremony: 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. The event will also be livestreamed for family members unable to be on campus.
  • CultureFest: 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, in the Fine Arts Plaza. This year marks the 25th anniversary of CultureFest at IU Bloomington.
  • Traditions and Spirit of IU: 8 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, at Memorial Stadium.

Other favorites like RecFest, all academic events, open houses, Herman B House Party, Welcome Week concert and many more can be found in the IU Bloomington Events Calendar with the Welcome Week tag.

IU Indianapolis

Fall move-in for first-year students living on the IU Indianapolis campus will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 17 and 18. Students should arrive at their preselected time. All first-year students will check in at the IU Indianapolis Campus Center at 420 University Blvd. Parking will be available in surface Lot 80, just south of the Campus Center.

Returning residents and upper-level students will move in Aug. 24 during their assigned time. Returning residents will use a drive-through move-in process starting in Lot 69 for North Hall or Lot 63 for Riverwalk Apartments and Ball Hall. This will expedite the check-in process; residents and guests will remain in their vehicles before proceeding to their unloading zone.

Residents will be welcomed by campus staff during their check-in process. Additionally, Move Crew — volunteers from student organizations, fraternities and sororities, and academic departments — will be on site to help unload and transfer residents’ belongings to their new housing assignments. IU Police Department officers will also be available around campus and will guide traffic as needed.

More move-in information can be found on the Student Affairs website.

Aug. 24 will mark the start of IU Indianapolis’ Weeks of Welcome, which will run through Sept. 7. Highlights include:
