Expert Bio

Russell Valentino is professor of Slavic and comparative literature and associate dean for international affairs in the College of Arts and Sciences at IU Bloomington. His is the author of two books on Russian literature and the translator of seven books from Italian, Russian and Bosnian/Croatian.

He has been senior editor of Autumn Hill Books since 2005. Valentino was editor-in-chief of The Iowa Review (2009-13); president of the American Literary Translators Association (2013-16); chair of the Slavic department at IU (2013-16); and chair of the Department of Cinema and Comparative Literature at University of Iowa (2008-11).

He has three NEA literature fellowships, two Fulbright research grants and numerous grants from U.S. and foreign governments; as well as publications in The New York Times, Iowa Review, Buenos Aires Review, Slavic Review and Modern Fiction Studies.
