Betsy Lucal

Expert Bio

Betsy Lucal is a professor of sociology and director of First Year Experience at IU South Bend, where she is also a member of the Women’s and Gender Studies and Master of Liberal Studies faculties.

She edits the Gender and Sexuality Section of Sociology Compass and previously served as deputy editor for Gender & Society. Her co-authored book, “Food & Society: Principles and Paradoxes” (with Denise A. Copelton and Amy E. Guptill), is in its second edition.

Lucal has won multiple national, systemwide and campus teaching awards.
