Expert Bio

Brady Atwood’s research analyzes the impact that drugs of abuse, such as prescription painkillers and alcohol, have on brain cells within neurocircuits that control motivations and compulsions.

Atwood uses cutting-edge tools such as optogenetics, mutant mice, viral vectors, proteomics and transcriptomics, electrophysiology, and mouse models of drug abuse. In particular, he is working to discover previously unidentified neurocircuits that control addiction-related behaviors.

Given the ongoing addiction epidemic throughout the world, this work is especially relevant as it may lead to the discovery of new therapeutic interventions to treat drug abuse and addiction.
