Expert Bio

Andrea Hohmann is a Linda and Jack Gill Chair of Neuroscience and professor in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at IU Bloomington. Her research is focused on identifying novel therapeutic strategies for treating pain that lack abuse liability and adverse side effects.

Her research has focused on harnessing the therapeutic potential of the endocannabinoid signaling system to suppress neuropathic pain while minimizing unwanted side effects (i.e., psychoactivity and addiction). Her work combines approaches from behavioral pharmacology, neurophysiology, neuroanatomy, biochemistry and molecular biology. A major goal of her work is to accelerate solutions to the current opioid epidemic.
