Andres Tovar

Expert Bio

Andres Tovar is an associate professor of mechanical and energy engineering at IUPUI. He is director of the Engineering Design Research Laboratory and the Collaborative Additive Manufacturing Research Initiative. He received his Ph.D. in mechanical and aerospace engineering from the University of Notre Dame in 2005 and has been with IUPUI since 2011. Among other awards, Tovar has received the 2019 IU Trustees Teaching Award, the 2018 SHPE STAR Educator of the Year Award, the 2014 SAE Ralph R. Teetor Educational Award and the first place in the 2015 ARPA-E LITECAR Challenge.

Areas of Expertise

Design of structures and materials, bioinspired design, design for additive manufacturing.
