Bryan Orthel is a registered interior designer, licensed architect, preservation scholar and advocate for using design to create the world we want to exist. His work with small communities and students focuses on activating their abilities to solve the problems they recognize, rather than telling them what their problems are or what the solutions should be.
His scholarship, which examines how people understand and use history in their decisions, is published in international journals and book chapters. He is the chair of the Board of Directors for the Journal of Interior Design and past president of the Interior Design Educators Council Foundation.
