Expert Bio

David Pierce is the director of the Sports Innovation Institute at IU Indianapolis. He is the author of the groundbreaking textbook “Selling in the Sport Industry,” the first book to teach students how to sell in the sport industry.

He is also a leading expert in how design thinking can solve pressing problems in the sports industry. Design thinking forms the basis of his teaching and consulting work in the Sports Innovation Institute.

Pierce has been recognized for his teaching excellence by the Sport Marketing Association with the William Sutton Award, by Indiana Shape as Sport Management Educator of the Year, and by Indiana University with the Trustees Teaching Award.
