Expert Bio

Julie Hatcher is associate professor of philanthropic studies and executive director of the Center for Service and Learning, a nationally recognized organization that supports faculty, student and staff engagement. She serves on the National Advisory Board for the Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement and routinely consults with other universities.

She was recognized in 2017 with the Distinguished Career Award from the International Association for Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement for her scholarship and research on the public purposes of higher education, and specifically how the college experience contributes to the development of civic-minded graduates and professionals. Hatcher was the first director of undergraduate programs in the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy.
