South Eats Pantry Event: Helping Students with Benefits and Food Assistance

Students Sep 3, 2024

IU Southeast’s Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) and the South Eats Food Pantry are excited to host an engaging and informative event for students on Wednesday, September 11, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Hoosier Room.

Students can explore various public support services at this event, including health insurance, prescription assistance, WIC, SNAP benefits, and Veteran’s Assistance. Agency representatives will be on hand to answer questions about eligibility, selecting the right plan, documentation, and enrolling in health insurance programs.

“The Benefits Fair aligns with our commitment to holistic learning,” said Karen Richie, Counselor and Care Manager in Counseling and Psychological Services. “It’s our way of ensuring students access vital resources and support systems that contribute to their academic success and overall well-being. We hope you will join us and explore opportunities that will help you thrive both in and out of the classroom.”

Students are also invited to meet Chef Gina Brown, Executive Director of Let Us Learn, Inc., from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and sign up for the first South Eats Skills Lab cooking class. This is a great opportunity for students interested in cooking to learn new skills and receive a unique spice blend to use at home.

Additionally, attendees can learn more about the South Eats Food Pantry, understand concerns about college hunger, and show their support by signing a letter for the Indiana Hunger Free Campus bill, aimed at ending college hunger in Indiana.

“IU Southeast is committed to meeting the diverse needs of students,” said Amanda Stonecipher, Vice Chancellor for Student Engagement. “The Benefits Fair offers essential information on resources like health insurance and food assistance, while also empowering students with practical skills for their well-being. Our goal is to ensure every student has the support needed to succeed, both academically and personally.”
