(New Albany, IN) IU Southeast is being recognized by the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge (ALL IN) for its nonpartisan engagement efforts that fostered high levels of student voter engagement in the 2022 midterm elections. IU Southeast received the Silver Seal reflecting its commitment to ensuring that nonpartisan democratic engagement is a defining feature of campus life.

The ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge empowers colleges and universities to achieve excellence in nonpartisan student democratic engagement. IU Southeast was recognized alongside more than 500 campuses using data from the National Study of Learning, Voting and Engagement (NSLVE) out of Tufts University, which found that colleges and universities had the second-highest voter turnout among students in a midterm election since NSLVE began measuring this data.

IU Southeast Chancellor Debbie Ford is proud of the university’s achievement.

“We are proud to have received the Silver Seal from All IN Campus Democracy Challenge, recognizing the engagement of IU Southeast students in voting during the 2022 mid-term elections. Our partnership with All In positions us to excel in nonpartisan student democratic engagement efforts, especially as many of our students prepare to vote in their first presidential election this fall.”

IU Southeast Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Michelle Williams echoed the importance of student engagement in democracy.

“As a regional public university, the mission of Indiana University Southeast involves educating students who become the citizens, workforce, and community members of the local region. We offer a comprehensive education that includes applied learning experiences so that students clearly see how their learning applies to their lives. As a campus we participate in the American Democracy Project, a program of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities that focuses on civic education and strengthening democracy through community.”

Jennifer Domagal-Goldman, Executive Director of the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge said, “The ALL IN Awards were created to celebrate nonpartisan democratic engagement and the outstanding campus voter registration and turnout rates achieved by our ALL IN campuses. Ahead of the 2024 elections, ALL IN campuses are ready to build on the momentum from 2022 to ensure their communities are ready to make an even bigger impact this fall. ALL IN is proud to celebrate and honor top-performing campuses, like IU Southeast who demonstrate that nonpartisan student voter engagement is possible and effective.”

More than 1,060 institutions enrolling more than 10 million students participate in the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge, which supports colleges and universities in achieving excellence in nonpartisan student voter engagement.
