Five on-campus conveniences for IU Bloomington faculty and staff

There are only so many hours in a week, and when you spend 40 hours or more at your job, it can seem like there's hardly any time left to take care of errands.

Luckily, faculty and staff at Indiana University Bloomington have these on-campus conveniences to make their lives just a little easier.

UPS at the IMU

Want to ship a package? Need to sign for something being delivered to you, but can't make it home during your lunch hour? Have special printing or copying needs? Look no further than the UPS Store in the Indiana Memorial Union. Located on the lobby level near the Biddle Hotel entrance, the store is a short walk from almost anywhere on campus. This UPS Store opens 30 minutes earlier and closes one hour later than Bloomington's other UPS store. It is open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Fridays. The UPS Store is closed Saturdays and Sundays. When you're done with your shipping and printing tasks, you can treat yourself to a cookie from Sugar and Spice or some ice cream from the Chocolate Moose in the IMU.

Eye care services at the IU School of Optometry

Chances are you regularly make a visit to your physician and go to the dentist for a teeth cleaning every six months. But how often do you get your eyes checked? Taking care of this aspect of your health couldn't be easier as an IU Bloomington employee. The IU School of Optometry, on the south side of campus on Atwater Avenue, hosts a full-service eye care clinic, making it convenient to schedule an eye exam during your lunch break or pick up your frames or contacts right after work. The clinic is open evenings and weekends and offers 24/7 emergency care. IU employees not covered by an IU-sponsored health care plan can receive a 10 percent discount on frames and lenses at all IU Eye Care Clinics. The Bloomington clinic accepts the vision benefit included in the employee medical plans offered by IU.  Enrolled members are eligible for a routine eye exam each year and discounts for vision wear.  For more information about the vision benefits for IU-sponsored health care plans, visit IU Human Resources' website.

Health screenings at the Health Center

So maybe you don't make it to your physician regularly for routine check-ups. Thanks to an incentive from Healthy IU, faculty and staff have no excuse not to schedule an annual health screening at the IU Health Center. Full-time academic and staff employees eligible for IU medical plans can receive a $100 annual incentive for receiving a free health screening at the IU Health Center. Spouses covered by IU plans are also eligible for the free screening and incentive. The $100 for employees and eligible spouses are included in a paycheck once the screening has been completed. It may take up to 60 days for incentive processing. Employees are only eligible for the incentive once per fiscal year, July 1 through June 9. To schedule a screening, call the IU Health Center, at the corner of Jordan Avenue and 10th Street, at 812-855-7688.

Motorist assistance from IU Parking Operations

Nothing can ruin a day more quickly than car trouble, but IU Parking Operations is on guard to bail you out. IU students, faculty, staff and visitors conducting business on campus are eligible for motorist assistance from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday on the IU Bloomington campus. Call 812-855-9849 and ask for motorist assistance if your car has a dead battery, flat tire or empty gas tank or if you've locked the keys in your car. The vehicle must be legally parked in a valid campus parking space and, unless you are a visitor, must display a valid IU parking permit. The motorist assistance service is free up to three times per academic year and costs $40 for each additional call.

Financial planning

Whether you're five years or 50 years into your career at IU, it's never too early to start planning for retirement. Luckily, individual investment and retirement income planning advising is an IU employee benefit. IU's partnership with Fidelity and TIAA provides one-on-one counseling appointments on campus. Meet with an advisor from either vendor during your lunch hour or coffee break without having to get in your car and leave campus. Visit the Human Resources website to learn more about scheduling an appointment with a Fidelity or TIAA.
