Triumph over the sophomore slump

Sophomore ExperiencesView print quality image

The sophomore experience can sometimes be a strange one. No longer a wide-eyed freshman, but still unsure of where you belong, it can feel like the pressure is on to figure things out. Fortunately, someone is here to help.

The Sophomore Experience Program, supported by the Office of Educational Partnerships and Student Success at IUPUI, is here to keep you from falling into the "sophomore slump." The program provides resources, staff and events all centered around giving you the support you need to have a successful second year.

Need a break from studying? Come to one of the Sophomore Socials, where you can relax and meet new friends facing the same unique joys and pains of being a sophomore. In fact, there will be one in Room 450 C of the Campus Center from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 25. It'll be a welcome chance to unwind before finals, so you won't want to miss it.

If you're looking for something more inspirational, you can stop by an event from the "Chew on This" series, which includes a free lunch! Of course, no college student would pass up a free meal, but these events also include workshops on topics like financial literacy, stress management, internships and more.

"Maximize Your Summer" is offered tomorrow, April 12, and Brian Benedict from Campus Career and Advising Services will show you how to use your summer to be intentional with your career readiness. This takes place in Campus Center Room 307 from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m.

The last "Chew on This" of the semester will be April 19, with a leadership lunch featuring Matt Wakefield from Keep Indianapolis Beautiful. It'll be in Campus Center Room 307 from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. Free food as well as advice from one of the most empowering groups in the city? Sign me up.

Being a sophomore can be tough, but there's no reason to suffer in silence. If you take control and reach out, you might just have the greatest sophomore experience ever.
