Wondering about renewing your parking pass if you’re not sure how much you’ll be on campus in the coming months? You’re not alone, according to IU Bloomington Director of Parking Operations Amanda Turnipseed, who said her office has been fielding plenty of questions.

The office offers several options:

  • Delay purchase of a permit until you return to campus. The parking office typically mails out a permit the next day following an online order, and you can print out a temporary permit to use immediately.
  • Purchase now and return at any point during the year, if necessary. A permit can be returned virtually by cutting it into five pieces and emailing a photo to . If returned on or before the fifth calendar day of a month, the employee will not pay for and will receive any applicable refund for that month.
  • Purchase a two- or three-person carpool permit. One caveat: This option is perhaps best for a household due to potential physical distancing needs.
  • Join the Hoosier Commuter Club, which includes 10 free one-time-use EM-P permits, the ability to purchase up to 15 additional one-time-use permits for $5 each over the course of the academic year, a free evening permit and emergency ride home reimbursement for the ride-hailing service of your choice.

In addition, hourly parking is available in the Henderson, Atwater, Jordan and Fee Lane garages.

Still have questions, or need to talk to someone in person? The parking office in the Henderson Parking Garage has reopened, with areas blocked off outside the entry to ensure physical distancing. The doors are propped open to limit contact from those visiting the office. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.

Parking enforcement, including garages and meters, will resume July 6. Parking enforcement happens from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.

Enforcement staff do not enforce lots on the weekends, including Friday nights after 6 p.m. While accessible and 24-hour spaces are able to be enforced by the IU Police Department, they are generally only done so based upon complaint, Turnipseed said.
